The St. John Fisher College Website is like many other colleges in terms of having a space for new releases and important information of that nature to be held. At the top of the homepage, there is a tab labeled news and events. This part of the website has past news releases from 2005, current college news, and a link to the on campus newspaper, the Cardinal Courier.
There is clear contact information presented with a name, phone number, and email address. The Cardinal Courier provides some of its own contact information. It is nice to see the paper also move to be online. For some students having access on the internet is much more convenient and easy rather than having the hard copy.
The St. John Fisher College Media part of the website has a lot of information in regards to news releases and archives but does not have much in the name of photos and videos. There are several stories that include them but no running bar on the side of videos. There is an RSS feed that has been updated on daily basis with sometimes multiple stories a day.
For the average student looking to find out more information on their college, Fisher does a nice job in the presenting the news. However, there is always room for improvement and they could do some more advertising with social media connections.
Walt Disney World is one of the largest business operations today. They not only own theme parks but also have business ventures include television stations, television series, and abroad business ventures. Disney World has a separate Website just used to work with the Media. In a business of this proportion it is only natural to see why there would be such an influx of press.
The website includes an RSS feed, past press releases, videos, picture, and a contact information page. This site indicates that medias will need to fill out information and then Disney will contact them in order to set up the appropriate meetings and such. There is also a contact phone number and address to the Public Relations Department if there is a need for an immediate response. Along the side bar, there are also links to the Media Pages for other Disney Ventures. This helps to give the media more defined searching in each area. They are able to separate the theme parks and even separate languages in order to make it a more seamless transition for people.
The Disney Media site has archives to past stories and events and has something that will be able to help everyone. This site is effective for the media because it provides great in site into the organization as well as a chance to correspond with the organization and conduct their own stories.
The U.S. Government’s Official Web Portal is place where people can come to learn more about the government. There are four main topics that the website is broken down into. These are Get Services, Explore Topics, Find Government agencies, and Contact the Government.
Surprisingly under the Contact the Government tab there are a variety of ways in which you will be able to speak with a government official. Many of the contacts include new forms of social media like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. I found it interesting that the government is now interacting with people through the use of social media. This is a move that I think will make them more approachable. There is a phone number listed and a chat service. Granted there may be a wait to be answered, the government has a phone number and a Facebook page. I belive this is helping to connect to more people.
The Buffalo News in a local newspaper in Buffalo, New York. The Buffalo News Website has become popular among many people because they have the newspaper at their fingertips. They have the ability to look up news storues more quickly as well as focus more on stories that fit their wants and needs. The stories are divided into sections and therefore, people have a much easier time going through the many stories to find ones that they may find to be of interest.
At the bottom of the Website there is a seciton that says “Other Ways to Read Us Online”. This is a great tool to incorporate into an online newspaper. There are giving the reader so many options in terms of looking up news and having the ability to do so on thier time. The ways that are offered are RSS, texts and email alerts, email newsletters, Mobile edition, Twitter, and Facebook.
The Buffalo News has clearly determined what their reader is becoming in this technology driven world. It only makes sense that they would look to cater to the needs of these people.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is an organization that has a mission to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.
The Make-A-Wish Homepage is very bright and exciting with pictures and stories for people to see. Along the top bar of the website is the News and Events Section. Dropping down from that topic comes categories such as News Releases, In the Media, Local Events, Newsletter, Download a Press Kit, and Media Contact.
In the News Releases Section, there is an archive of information that has been put together by Make-A-Wish and was used to present stories to the media outlets. The In the Media section also keeps records of all news stories that have appeared in the media involving Make-A-Wish in any way from Wish granting to events and fundraisers. The Media Contact section requires the media personnel to leave their contact information and then a representative from Make-A-Wish will contact them back with more information. There is however, the name and contact number of the Media Relations Manager in case there is an immediate concerns.
On the side bar there is an RSS news feed with recent stories and events along with pictures and videos from these events. This helps keep the information current and also provide another medium for people to learn about the organization.
The overall set up of the Website is easy to use and proved the media with much information. Everything they would need is in an easy to locate area. The site is user-friendly and helps to promote media. Since The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization they do rely heavily on free advertising and promotion. The website helps to attract these news sources.
